skyrim review!

This last November, we were….. Blessed… by Bethesda studios with a new elder scrolls game! Skyrim is the biggest rpg of the year with over 30 dungeons of awesome, dragon, more than a dozen major story lines to assist and distract players from their true path, and again….dragons! Around the world, Skyrim received praise from gamers of all types. Even as I criticize it and open its obvious flaws to the internet, I too love this game.

Skyrim follows the footsteps of its predecessors with only a single player campaign. As players traverse their way through Skyrim on their epic journey for who knows what, they will notice that the world is randomly generated for the most part. Besides the deceivingly modest map, and constant AI movement patterns, Bethesda has mastered the art of player triggered randomness. The crown of Skyrim is its fantastic scenery, which at a distance, shows what medieval forests and scenic mountains really would have looked like. Accommodating these tourist attractions, are DDDRRRRRRRAAAAAAGOOOONNNSSSSSS!!!!! Unheard of in the elder scrolls universe until now, dragons have made their anticlimactic return to the world of Tamriel only to be screwed over by a single dragon born fellow controlled by the player.

The Pros:

The things that Skyrim improved on and kept from oblivion were fantastic. Farther render distance and beautiful landscapes have replaced the bland overcrowded environments of Oblivion. The ability to have a pure mage class, and combine spells has really shown the magical relevance between player abilities and the world Bethesda has crafted. All in all, the game is a hell of a lot better and friendly than Oblivion, and the Pro’s heavily outweigh the cons.

Yes Bethesda we’ve seen this village a thousand times just GIVE US THE GAME ALREADY!!!!

The Cons:

The new spikiness of Skyrim is nice, but as we learned from Modern Warfare 3 a few days before Skyrim… shiny expansions don’t change entire games worth shit… the clumsy AI, bland conversation system and lack options in terms of appearance and armor customization outside of crafting is saddening to mmo jockeys like me. Bethesda obviously didn’t learn much after helping make brink…

Overall, Skyrim is by far the best Elder Scrolls game to date. I still prefer DA2 to it, but when I have a few hours of EA server downtime to rest from battlefield 3, I’ll always have Skyrim to work on. Not everyone will agree with me, but Skyrim is the world’s best expansion to any game. Besides far distance rendering, dragons, and new class systems, it doesn’t seem to have changed enough to raise as much hype as it did. The deep back-story and boat load of side quests are amusing and fun, but the more explorative players will kill all the dragons quickly as only about half are unscripted. I would rather give this game 4 out of 5 unlike everyone else, but in my defense, the same random horse appearing out of the ground glitch from Oblivion shows the lack of effort and technology that Bethesda put into a massive game. Could have been a hell of a lot better had they taken the extra few months to develop their most anticipated game in the company’s speratic existence.

dark side light side?

So, I was in the sw:tor beta this last weekend, and I decided to make this poll, and then I thot, rdpete has an xbox now, so what about that? sure why not, here’s a fun little post 😀

The Old Republic Beta has no NDA

TA MOTHER FUCKING DA! this last weekend, I COMPLETELY ignored everything not SW:ToR beta except rdpete getting an XBOX 360, but including my Skyrim review, which will come either later tonight or tomorrow for sure. back to the main topic of this post! Star Wars: The Old Republic beta. Last Tuesday I was informed through e-mail that I was invited to play in the SWTOR beta and I’m gonna say… redefining mmorpg’s is Bioware’s new forte.

The Old Republic is not a wow clone as gameplay suggests. The game not only starts players with a cutscene/bioware style chat sequence just to remind players that they are playing a bioware rpg…. that rpg just also happens to have thousands of players playing TOGETHER at the same time as players level up and explore their way through the Star Wars Universe as they have never seen before as the game is set thousands of years before all movies and games. I amazed at how well the game kept up the prestige of bioware story and level design while implementing the combat familiar to so many mmo players looking for a side addiction from the cocaine they started to doing to get away from WoW. I myself played WoW for 3 years before quiting, and SW:ToR has shown me the way Blizzard SHOULD have gone about making the worlds biggest MMO.

Back to playing said beta for the last few hours it’s available to me for the weekend,

Bioware and teasing….

earlier today, a first look video of bioware’s newest IP was released here is a picture of the game during the video: near future?.... yea.....

and here is the video:

also, it was officially announced that the SPIKE VGA’s(video game awards) will be aired on SPIKE tv on Decembeer 10th.

still scanning the internet for random “things” to prep for sw:tor,

BACK to the crafting table

so, we’ve been gone for a few days. but we’re back for the most part, we skipped our podcast last week, and we’re gonna make up for it with a skyrim post tomorrow, a podcast and week in review video next week. also, sometime this weekend we will be giving out some improved information on minecraft according to what all happens at Minecon tomorrow and friday.

game renting…. YEAH!!! oh yeah… and skyrim

So, today I had the pleasure of realizing something. RedBox had SKYRIM!!! first day release and I’m playing the most anticipated rpg of the year for 2$! might be 4$ if i keep it through tomorrow(most proboble) but ya know what? im a gamer, its freaking friday night, and I already have 6 hours of gameplay in. not only will I be posting another review tomorrow of this said fantasy epic.

In other words, I’ve realized how awesome and handy these rental services have become since blockbuster took it down a notch and the digit cloud started covering the world. Among other resources like Redbox, which really takes the spotlight in day by day movie rentals, GameFly and Netflix are the real industry giants. While Netflix does not yet deliver games, they do give millions of people games, and the same can be said for GameFly who obviously DOES do game rentals. Aint the world just great?

Anyway, the moral of the story is, Skyrim’s out, its great, I love redbox witha passion, and most importantly, fuck call of duty modern warfare 3. I may have said nothing about it in this post, but skyrim beats it 3 to 1, and they shouldnt even be compared really. I still just wanna say I’m glad game and movie rentals are still around even though walking around a large store of stock isnt so much a part of it anymore.

again, thank god for redbox, i need to kill more dragons nao.
